- You are so stressed out and scared that things will not work out
How to Avoid Getting Frustrated
To be clear, it is not easy dealing with frustration. Not to mention, when the frustration is from your family member, your loyal friend or your significant other. Here are some simple yet powerful things you can do to avoid getting frustrated:
1. Expect Things to Change:
Change can be extremely difficult. Particularly, an unexpected change. What sudden changes have you experienced lately? For instance, job loss, stock market crash or relationship break ups could happen to you at anytime. Do you get frustrated when things change?
Also, wherever there’s investment frustration is likely because investment comes with expectation. Anytime the game plan changes, frustration sets in. Solely because what you envisioned has changed. When your expectation is not met it comes with disappointment. Then, frustration kicks when disappointment hangs in a little longer.
Even in your own body, there will be emotional and physical changes. Rather than getting frustrated over change, adapt to the change. Always tell yourself that things are always bound to change. So create options and choices for yourself.
Once in a while, life will disrupt what you expected. So expect change and get used to being disappointed. Also, be flexible because things could always fall apart.
2. Stop Seeking Justification:
Are you upset because you don’t feel like things were ruled in your favor? Maybe you are hurt because you didn’t get the judgement you deserve. Or you are constantly explaining why you took any action. So that you will be validated, appreciated or accepted. Here’s a great advice for you: stop seeking justification.
On the other hand, you may be overly self-conscious of everything you do. So you feel the need to stress and overanalyze the reason for your actions. At all cost resist the urge to justify all your actions.
On a personal level, unnecessary justification can lead you to frustration especially when you are not getting what you desire. Remember, things don’t happen to you they happen for you. So stop seeking justification and make the best out of the unbearable times in your relationship.
3. Quit Blaming:
What are you blaming your loved ones for? A young man had a very successful career as a salesman but every time he always had one thing that frustrated him. Overtime, this one thing became a sever burden in his life. He always felt left out on vacations and trips to the beach. Guess what his frustration was? Swimming. This young man couldn’t swim. To make things worse he was frustrated with his father for leaving him at a young age and not teaching him how to swim. Apparently, all the people in his inner circle were taught how to swim by their fathers. Why then did his own father deny him this opportunity? He thought to himself.
As little as this story may seem, blaming others can lead you to feeling hurt. The more you blame, the more frustrated you become. Instead take responsibility and steer things to the direction you want. Blaming others takes away control from you. When you blame others you lose your power. Besides, frustration kicks in when people feel powerless and helpless.
4. No Emotional Decisions:
While you should embrace the emotions you feel, you also need to be cautious of the decisions you make. Especially during challenging times in your relationship with a loved one, you need to avoid emotional decisions. Emotional decisions are impulsive decisions that are not rationally made. Unfortunately, emotional decisions always come with a heavy price that you will have to pay afterwards. In short, emotional decisions screw you over.
Interestingly, a costly emotional decisions are made during moments of negative emotions like pain, anger and disappointment. Negative emotions can make you have overly dramatic responses. As a result, the decisions made often tend to be ones that you may end up regretting. Remember, the pain of regret could be really frustrating.
5. Talk Things Over:
By all means, stop bottling up your emotions and communicate your feelings. Like the popular saying goes: communication is key to success in any relationship. It is important to realize that talking things over involves speaking effectively and actively listening. In other words, to be heard by others you have to listen. Instead of yelling, screaming or throwing tantrums, you need to take the time to talk things over. Talking things over with people with people you over love can help you avoid getting frustrated by your loved ones. You may not say anything to the person involved but inside you are boiling with anger. Going around venting will not solve the frustration especially going behind people’s back. Regardless of how you have been hurt by the people you love, always find things to be grateful for. Moreover, being grateful for things as simple as good health is vital. Reason being that there are so many people who would kill to have your good health.
Surprisingly, there are scientifically proven benefits of gratitude in your life. In addition, being grateful will help you psychologically, mentally and physically in times that could have been frustrating. In fact, the more you train yourself to be grateful the less frustrated you become with unpleasant circumstances. That being said, always express your gratitude for the good things you have during miserable times in your relationship.
Finally, when you don’t resolve your frustrations, it leads you to disaster. Therefore, you have to understand that how you handle your frustrations determines how happy your life will be.
