He later returned to his country a few years later after a successful career in Europe to run for the highest office. George gave back to his country in many ways. He did this through building health care facilities, scholarships, educational institutions etc. He ran against a Harvard educated candidate for the 2005 Liberia presidential election. However, George Weah lost the election at the time solely as a result of his lack of education.
George did not give up after he lost the election. He disciplined himself to obtain his high school diploma at the age of 40. Furthermore, he enrolled in an undergraduate program in business management at DeVry University in the United States. Subsequently, he went on to obtain his master’s degree in public administration.
Fast forward to 2017, George Weah campaigned again for the Liberian presidential election which he won. George Weah’s ascent from the slum in Liberia to the highest position in Liberia is a story of rising from suffering to hope.
