Taking the first step in a positive direction is the hardest, yet most rewarding part of any life-changing journey. Much more than momentum, the first step in a positive direction is very critical to your success in life. Momentum is what keeps you going in any given direction. However, if you’re headed in the wrong direction no amount of momentum will bring you success.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Perhaps, you are overweight or not in a healthy shape physically. Your ability to cut out one junk food a day might seem insignificant but it’s a simple step that will change your life positively. What have you always desired? Is it more money? Amazing relationships? Or even a happy life? You are just one step away from all that you desire in life. Moh moved to New York City from Pakistan about 10 years ago with his wife and two sons in search of greener pastures. Upon arriving New York City, Moh became a Yellow Cab taxi driver. He didn’t own the taxi he was driving and had 10 hours a day to make ends meet . Moh hated the working conditions and the fact that the life he was living was far from the one he desired. After 3 years of driving the Yellow Cab, he was determined to change his life but this had to come with a price. He needed to cut down his living expenses and increase his driving hours. He and his family moved into a one-bedroom apartment in one of the poorest neighborhoods.  As this was the only way that enabled him to save up the money to purchase his own taxi within 6 months.

In  less than 2 years, Moh acquired 2 more taxis and had his own drivers. On top of that, he built up his credit history and  purchased a foreclosed 3-unit apartment building in Brooklyn, New York. Moh moved into one of the apartment units with his family and was living rent free. The rent from the other two apartment units paid his mortgage and maintenance costs. After that, he connected real estate investors and  devised a means to purchase many more apartment buildings. Therefore making him become financially free and able to enjoy the life he dreamed of. Today, Moh is a business tycoon living in a luxury mansion, with thriving real estate and transport businesses. Certainly, taking the first step by choosing to cut down his living expenses and drive more hours, helped Moh realize the life he desired.

To accomplish anything than is worth it, you will need to take the first step. However, that first step is likely going to be scary, daunting and overwhelming. Fear is the mental obstacle between you and that which you desire. Therefore, the only way to conquer fear is action. And action is congruent to taking the first step.

Taking the first step gives you confidence in yourself. Thus, empowering you to take charge of the entire journey. The act of taking the first step puts you in control of your progress towards your goals.

Like the saying goes, if you do not know where are going, any road will lead you there. A good way to waste your time in life is doing so many things but producing nothing. Most importantly, when it comes to achieving success in life, knowing what not to focus on is the key. Distractions are part of the journey to a successful life. But, your ability to focus empowers you to achieve whatever you desire. Undoubtedly, taking the first step in a positive direction enables you to focus on the right path, avoid distractions and enjoy positive rewards.
