Studies have shown that only 92 percent of people who set goals fail to achieve them. Why is this the case? What is missing? There is one simple but yet super effective factor that separates the achievers from the 92 percent that fail. This missing factor is CONSISTENCY.
If it is easy to set a goal, why then is it hard or near impossible to achieve your goal? Too often many fail not because they set really big goals rather they set out to achieve their goals with just one big stride. They forget that long-term consistency defeats short-term intensity.
Imagine setting a goal to write a best-selling novel. You may be a terrific writer but achieving this goal in a day or two could pose a feat that makes you throw in the towel.
It’s okay to set a specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely (S.M.A.R.T) goal, however, failure to follow up with consistent action will place you among the 92 percent that never achieve their goals.
A wise man once said: eat your elephant one bite at a time. We all have elephants in our lives. What is yours? Could it be weight loss? Developing nourishing relationships? Learning a new skill?
If your goal is to become a concert pianist, practicing a couple times a week for a year or even five years will not get you there. Establishing consistent daily practice promotes proficiency and inches you closer to becoming a legendary pianist.

Most importantly, know what you want and why. It’s not the goal that keeps you committed, it’s the reason for the goal that keeps you engaged.

Set a schedule, mark your margins and map out your plan then stick to it even if you don’t feel like it. Determine not to give up when you hit a road block or when things slow down. On the other hand, resist the temptation of going too fast when things seem bright.
